On a warm spring day, almost 35 years ago, (1972) in Irmo (Columbia), South Carolina, the Bailey family opened the doors of Bailey Real Estate. Today, in 2006, the company still occupies the same building that was constructed by Alex Bailey's Parents at 401 Western Lane. Yes, Bailey Real Estate was founded as a family owned company and has remained a family owned company during the company's, 1/3 of a century lifetime. Many things have changed and expanded but the company remains an integral responsibility of the Baileys.
Through the 80's the company prospered and became regionally known for its' business acumen and integrity. Many commercial and residential buildings were added to the company portfolio and prosperity and good times flowed into the 90's. During the 90's Alex Bailey, the oldest son, graduated from the graduate program at Vanderbilt University with an MBA and entered the company with some new ideas.
In the early 2000's The Subway Sandwich Franchise was beginning to take the Southeast by storm and Alex decided to become a Subway Franchisee. First one, then another and then more stores were purchased by Bailey Real Estate. Not only were these Subway franchises proving good investments but they began to interest Alex from a Franchisors perspective. Subway had just about "written the book" on franchising and Alex was a fast learner.
In mid 2003, a new direction was begun with the purchase of a West Coast manufacturer of Drive Thru Buildings for the very fast growing Specialty Coffee Business. The entire business was moved to Columbia, SC and thus was born, Java Grande. The first year was a learning period with production, design, operational methods, and a customer service infrastructure being developed. Only a small number of units were sold as sales were secondary until everything else was in place. But, in 2005, the company was ready for a sales push.
New programs such as a comprehensive Area Developer Program were introduced. It was off and running with sales doubling, and then tripling in less than a years time.
And here we are in the middle of our break-out year, 2007 adding many new Licensees and area Developers each month. We are a well run, self financed company with experts in Sales, Marketing, Customer Relations, Real Estate Locating, Permitting, Production and all other necessary fields.
